How to Get Started in SciENcv & ORCID ID

To get started in SciENcv, the first step is to create an ORCID ID, which is utilized in the SciENcv application. To clarify, SciENcv is a software/application that will generate the required agency Common Forms.

Please follow the steps below provided by University Libraries to start the process. Please note that creating an initial ORCID record and connecting it to the Citation Index should take no more than 5 minutes. However, populating the information will take additional time, so please start the process now.

  • Step 1: Create and link your ORCID ID record to the University Libraries’ Citation Index,
    • To get started, visit the Citation Index and click on the “Get Started” button. You will be asked to log in with your Unity ID and password. You will then be led through the process of associating your ORCID ID with your Unity ID. If you do not already have an ORCID ID, you can register for one as part of the process.
  • Step 2: Link ORCID ID with SciENcv using the Libraries’ website/guides and create the Biosketch and Current & Pending Common Forms:

University Libraries also offers a CV service where you can send them your CV (or another list of publications). They will use your publications list to:

  • Fill any gaps in the publications we know about, starting with the most recent 3 years
  • Look up DOIs for all of your publications
  • Send publications with DOIs to your ORCID record
  • Look for open-access links for publications with DOIs

If there are any questions regarding the process, please contact the NCSU Librarians for assistance at group-lib-citations@ncsu.edu.
