CASE Institute Food Science and Safety Course

A workshop for middle and high school teachers presented by the Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education (CASE)

Hosted at NC State University

Food Science and Safety CASE Institute

If you are a middle or high school teacher interested in bringing food science into your classroom, the CASE Institute Food Science and Safety course is for you! NC State hosts this professional development opportunity each summer. The workshop and course materials prepare you to facilitate food science lessons in your classroom.

Upon completing this workshop, you will be certified to teach the Food Science and Safety Course developed by CASE (Curriculum for Agricultural Science Education). You will also receive the entire curriculum, complete with lesson plans, lab activities, PowerPoint presentations, quizzes, answer keys, assessment rubrics, and more. The course is presented in a hybrid format: five days in-person and two days online.

What are the learning benefits for my students? The Food Science and Safety course is aligned with Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. Certification can provide your students the opportunity to explore the science behind food through the following areas of study:

  • Food Chemistry
  • Food Microbiology
  • Nutrition
  • Processing

  • Product Development
