Introducing The Science That Feeds Us!

We are excited to introduce The Science That Feeds Us, a new podcast that explores the stories and science behind our food system. Co-hosted by Dr. Katie Sanders, an Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist of Food Systems Communication, and her graduate student, Bhavisha Gulabrai, this show connects extension professionals, researchers, and consumers through timely, interdisciplinary conversations about agriculture and the food system.

Our goal is to bring clarity to complex agri-food topics by offering accessible, research-backed insight and highlighting the people and research behind the scenes. Our food system is shaped by many intersecting factors, and we believe these conversations should be happening in public spaces where more people can listen, learn, and feel connected to the stories and science behind what’s on your plate. Whether you work in science or agriculture, are trying to make sense of the latest health trend, or simply want to make more informed choices at the grocery store, this podcast is designed to meet you where you are.

Season 1 launches August 1st and features a wide range of topics from urgent issues like bird flu and the debate over seed oils to a special mini-series focused on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Each episode will dig into the science that shapes our food system and break down current topics grounded in research and real-world experience. Listeners will also have the chance to get to know their hosts and their personal “why” that inspired the podcast.

In addition to full-length, bi-weekly episodes, we’ll be sharing teaser clips and other content on our Instagram page (@thesciencethatfeedsus). We’re especially excited to use social media not just to promote episodes, but to create space for feedback, questions, and future topic suggestions from our listeners. Follow along, listen in, and help us grow a community where food, science, and storytelling come together.
