When submitting financial transactions, it’s important to include the appropriate phase<\/strong> associated with your project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While a phase may seem like just another required field, it helps the college track expenditures, meet federal and state reporting requirements, and most importantly, demonstrate the impact of our research and extension programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is a phase?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A phase<\/strong> is a 5-digit number following a \u201c-\u201d, attached to a Project ID that helps track expenditures tied to a specific faculty member, program or initiative. For example, 201999-99999.<\/strong> A single phase may be used across multiple Project IDs, allowing CALS to accurately track and report related work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why are phases so important?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Phases do more than track expenses. They help tell the story of the work happening across CALS. A key component of our existence as a college is our federal capacity funding. We use phases to show return on investment to the USDA for their support across all of our funding sources. Basically, their funding enables us to do a substantial amount of additional work! This is why faculty are encouraged to use their hatch phases on other project values that are supporting their Hatch research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using the correct phase also helps CALS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Accurately track expenditures across research, extension and academic activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Meet federal and state matching funds and reporting requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Ensure expenses are associated with the appropriate program, faculty member or initiative.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Reduce processing delays and improve financial reporting.

    Finding the correct phase<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    If you’re unsure which phase is associated with your project, you can find it in MyPack Portal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Enter the Project ID to view the active phases associated with that project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
