{"id":24568,"date":"2026-04-21T09:10:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T13:10:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/units.cals.ncsu.edu\/business-operations\/?p=24568"},"modified":"2026-04-21T09:10:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T13:10:23","slug":"updates-to-the-data-management-and-sharing-plan-dmsp-format","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/units.cals.ncsu.edu\/core-support\/news\/updates-to-the-data-management-and-sharing-plan-dmsp-format\/","title":{"rendered":"Updates to the Data Management and Sharing Plan (DMSP) Format"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently announced an important update to its proposal submission process that may affect researchers preparing proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Effective <strong>April 27, 2026<\/strong>, the Data Management and Sharing Plan (DMSP) required to be submitted with all U.S. NSF proposals will change formats, from a PDF upload to a webform in Research.gov. These changes reflect the supplemental policy notice\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nsf.gov\/policies\/document\/pappg24-1-supplement-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NSF 26-202<\/a>\u00a0published January 22, 2026. A Research.gov advisory was also posted on January 27, 2026, notifying the research community that the new form will be effective on this date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What to expect:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Effective April 27, 2026, the proposal\u2019s DMSP will be collected through a\u00a0webform that is built directly into Research.gov.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The webform will be generated based on the\u00a0primary\u00a0<strong>Directorate<\/strong>\u00a0of the proposal\u00a0selected at the time of proposal creation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The webform must be completed to submit a\u00a0proposal unless a justification is provided.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Documents uploaded before\u00a0April 27, 2026,\u00a0will be accessible on the Data Management and Sharing Plan\u2019s page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>However, once data is saved in the new form, the previously uploaded PDF will be overwritten.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your proposal is submitted on or before April 27, 2026, a proposal file update is not required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Additional information on each section of the webform is also available at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.research.gov\/research-web\/content\/DMSP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this link<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Questions?<\/strong>&nbsp;If you have IT system-related questions, please contact the NSF IT Service Desk at 1-800-381-1532 (7:00 AM &#8211; 9:00 PM ET; Monday &#8211; Friday except federal holidays) or via&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:rgov@nsf.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rgov@nsf.gov<\/a>.
