Gift Card Template required by the Tax Office

Gift cards are treated like cash, so they need to be reported as income to the IRS. To assist with this process, the Gift Card Template should be completed for all gift card purchases, including gift cards purchased for research incentives, and submitted to tax_compliance@ncsu.edu to review and determine any potential tax implications for the recipients. If you are giving a gift card to a foreign national, please keep in mind that U.S. taxes may apply depending on their visa status. Before issuing gift cards to any foreign recipient, contact the Tax Compliance Office and provide the recipient’s full name and email address so they can guide you through the process.
